With an observation deck accessible throughout the year, the Gornergrat, at 3 089 metres (above sea level), ranks among the leading excursion destinations. Surrounded by twenty nine 4 000 metre peaks, the highest Swiss mountain and, the third largest glacier in the Alps, this route offers a mountainscape panorama that couldn’t be more overwhelming.
This is one of Europe’s highest open-air cog railways. It has its lower terminus next to the station of the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn in Zermatt, from where it climbs the Gornergrat approximately every 24 minutes. Travel across stunning bridges, through valleys, tunnels and idyllic forests, and past gorges and mountain lakes, with the Matterhorn in constant view.
World Travel issues a voucher which must be exchanged for the actual travelling ticket within six months of purchase, at the Gornergrat station in Zermatt.
