    • Northbound trains run on Sundays and Wednesdays.
    • Southbound trains run on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
    • Optional “Whistle Stop” tours are available in Alice Springs and Katherine.

Platinum Service:
  • Only 25 cabins for 50 travellers.
  • Offered on all trains between April and October, on selected departures between October and March.
  • Accommodation and in-cabin services:
    Platinum service cabins are private lounges during the day, with moveable tables to offer plenty of room to entertain and enjoy the journey. Platinum service cabins are: very spacious – twice as big as Gold service cabins.  They are available as twin or double, double = double bed. There are no single cabins. They are fully serviced by carriage attendants with fresh sheets, pillows and duvets. Fully equipped as en-suite facilities, toilets, washbasins and full size shower. There are wardrobes, full length mirrors, power sockets, reading lights and foldaway tables, oversized panoramic windows, in-cabin safe and lockable door. There are complimentary toilet bags, onboard magazine, nightcap and turndown service every night. Binoculars and in-cabin entertainment on request. Morning or afternoon tea and coffee served in the cabin.
  • Meals onboard: All meals are included in the price of the ticket (breakfast, lunch and A la-carte dinner, welcome drinks and appetisers on arrival)
  • There is priority seating in the restaurant, food is freshly prepared by the onboard chefs. Seasonal menus featuring Australian dishes (saltwater Barramundi, Kangaroo fillet etc) Selection of premium Australian wines and beverages (available for purchase) Special dietary requirements are available on request at the time of booking. Breakfast packs are available for early morning destination arrivals and off-train tour requirements. Option in-cabin continental breakfast, priority check-in and “Whistle Stop” tour bookings. Access to the Outback Explorer lounge with beverages available for purchase.
Gold Service:
  • Accommodation and in-cabin services:
    Twin cabins are a three seater lounge during the day and converts to upper and lower berths at night. They also have an en-suite facility with a toilet, washbasin and shower. Single cabin guests – benefit from a lounge other than converting into a single sleeper berth at night and have access to the communal shower and toilet facilities located at the end of each carriage. All cabins include complimentary toiletry bag and onboard magazine.
  • Meals onboard: Breakfasts, lunches and dinners are all included in the price of the ticket. Special dietary requirements are available on request at time of booking. Breakfast packs are available for tours or early morning destination arrivals.
  • Other services:
    • Access to the Outback Explorer Lounge, with beverages for purchase, tea and complimentary coffee are available 24 hours a day.
    • Gold Service reception is hosted by the Gold Service Manager in the Outback Explorer Lounge with information sessions held in the lounge.
    • Recorded journey commentary is played through the sound system.
Red Service:
  • Accommodation and in-cabin services:
    • Twin air-conditioned cabins with facing lounge chairs converting into upper and lower berths and a washbasin
    • Complimentary onboard magazine
    • Communal shower and toilet facilities are located at the end of each carriage
    • Detailed recorded journey commentary is played through the sound system
  • Meals onboard: Meals are not included in the price of the ticket. Red Service guests have access to the (licensed) Red Service Diner where light meals as well as beverages are available for purchase.
  • Red Service Day/ Night: Seat features include recliner lounge-style chairs with ample legroom, access to the Red Service Diner offering meals, snacks, alcoholic beverages and soft drinks for purchase.
  • Luggage: It is recommended that you take an overnight bag containing all requirements for the journey and then check-in all other luggage. You are permitted to check-in a maximum of 40kg of luggage free of charge.

Guide dogs: Permitted for traveller’s that are sight impaired, the fare paid to travel on the Ghan will include a carriage for the guide dog.
